Are you ready for a food festival that is certain to change your life and the way you look at food?

GASTRONOMICA is a festival that has been described as the only one ahead of it’s time… Gastronomica believes in the integrity of people, product, place and ingredients. What appealed me to Gastronomica is not just their focus on developing a holistic lifestyle, but their wish to encompass health, food with integrity, all commodities and education.

What is most amazing about the GASTRONOMICA Festival is the overwhelming support and enthusiasm of Knysna as a town and the involvement of the local talent to help produce an astounding food and lifestyle experience. The support of Knysna Tourism is evident in their aim towards Green Tourism and a Greener Future. Gastronomica and its key organizers are all keen to promote and focus on all elements involved in food – from ground to plate – whilst pursuing and creating a sense of conscious living with more awareness towards the environment and living.

GASTRONOMICA is about celebrating local personalities, culture and talent. It’s about showcasing Knysna and the Garden Route and establishing itself as a self sustaining annual event. Their vision is to educate, share, enjoy and unite with food as the uniting vehicle. All of things require your support and in the long run, this dream to raise the bar, to do better, to achieve excellence through hands-on training, development of people and sustainable job creation; will only improve the standard of living for all of us living here in Knysna and along the Garden Route.

GASTRONOMICA Restaurants all share two common key items – integrity and excellence. One of the initial obstacles for the founders of the Gastronomica festival to overcome was trying to sell the concept to the public, but as the years have gone by the response from the public and especially the various age groups has been more reward than one would think to the hard work and effort of this dynamic team.

This year there is a lot of fantastic local talent involved in bringing you some truly informative and creative ideas. From fashion shows to cooking demonstrations, baking classes for the kids to sushi classes for beginners. I urge you to come down to Thesen Island and participate in this festival. There is a great selection of local restaurants involved offering the very best of their culinary expertise.

What better way to kick off National Braai Day on Wednesday, 24th September than by being shown fabulous new ways to use your Cobb or Weber braai with scrumptious fish. Or otherwise be thrown into a whole new world of whisky and food pairing, bread and chocolate demonstrations or otherwise visit the market and take in the fabulous sounds of live music. There is so much on offer and too much too miss out on, so grab a programme and book early for the classes, demonstrations and events that most tickle your fancy.

Come to GASTRONOMICA and expose yourself and your lifestyle to the dynamic diversity of Kysna, its people – their energy and spirit, their belief in development through acknowledging the positive energy of the past and present, whilst creating a sustainable livelihood.
