A Slow Food journey of note!

A passion for food is what brings people together every year during Gastronomica. This festival, happening from 24 to 28 September this year, promotes the principles of the Slow Food industry - “good, clean and fair” food.
Good represents original taste and texture, fresh and in season; clean the absence of toxins, sprays and poison and fair promotes a win-win situation, where all parties of the food chain benefit. By encouraging these principles Gastronomica’s ultimate goal is to create a meaningful and sustainable lifestyle in the community around us.
In keeping with these principles, all ingredients used will be locally sourced, fresh and in season. 11 local restaurants also committed to serve food within these guidelines, as well as food that will be MSG, additive, colourant and preservative free.
The festival kicks off this year very aptly on Heritage Day on the 24th. A Food Theatre Market Day representing members from the local community will show their products, skills and talents. There will be live entertainment, fun kids events and  cooking demonstrations with local produce, fish  from the sea, some with infusion from other cultures including a taste of India.
The varying and interesting programme over the next five days include interesting talks focussing on bio diversity; how to buy produce that is good, clean and fair – tips on what to watch out for when shopping; reading and understanding food labels; health issues and demonstrations and workshops on pasta, bread and generally good wholesome food.
Gastronomes can learn how to make sushi, attend chocolate tastings and workshops and pair single malt whiskey with selected food dishes to achieve mouth watering harmony.
Other highlights on the programme are the stunning Gala Evening “A feast with Intrigue” that takes place on 27th and a Symphony Orchestra and Crafts Market on Sunday 28th September.
Gastronomica will also encourage a waste free festival by demonstrating natural and bio-degradable decorations, containers and wrapping.
Diarise the 24th to the 28th of September and come and take a Slow Food journey in Knysna. Gastonome or not, Gastronomica will infuse your senses and show you how to eat (and live!) “good, clean and fair”.
